Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24, 72 in Long Beach, California. DuVernay was encouraged to pursue her love of the arts by her aunt Denise at the age of a small child. She worked as an evening nurse in order to give her aunt to have the time she needed during her day time to enjoy the pleasures of literature, art, and theater. DuVernay was exposed to the movie of 1961 West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay was taught by her that art could be a vehicle for activism. DuVernay learned to be socially mindful through her mother. Even though DuVernay grew up living in Compton with her family, she lived in Lowndes County Alabama where her father's family lived for generations. Her father was awed by the historic civil rights march through the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the adjacent town Selma Alabama. Her summers in Selma, Alabama would influence her later on to create an animated film on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California, in 1990. DuVernay enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles following her graduation, and received qualifications in English as well as African American Studies. As studying, DuVernay was interested in creating for the broadcast media. She began her career as an intern for CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was appointed to look-out and search for the house for a specific member of the Jury. Her disappointment was evident in her journalistic duties and decided to move into the world of public relations. DuVernay began working in a small studio as a Junior Publicist right after college. Her first venture was The DuVernay Agency, her PR firm, in 1999. In addition, she launched several lifestyle and promotional networks, including Urban Beauty Collective.
